Send me your school address and i'll send you resources I will be using...
result!
How will you use this event in your Geography lessons .
I plan to highlight South Africa, not often a case study at KS3.
Also we will map the tournament venues, and locate the countries taking part. Once the media frenzy and the matches begin its a goldmine for geographical interest and learning.

Video: KS1/2 Geography - Geography Basics: Where Do I Start?
Time.com has very good photos.
BBC News has animated diagrams on the causes of earthquakes.
see the Guardian on 7/1/2010 for 'A brief History of Snow'
& Who could resist the Nasa photo of UK from space 8/1/2010 on every media front page, how white is my valley?
Then let the students tell their stories of fun, problems & issues on this cold spell, geography & literacy.
YOUR IDEAS??
what topics do you want to discuss/gain ideas from??
I think gcse CAs are still a big issue and APP perhaps?
Let me know.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL & Good Geography & Peace for 2010
The G.A. webpages[gissartshere] and the ESRIC pages.

Well worth a read and it reminds us to keep a positive option in our Futures teaching, too often we stress the problems of this ecoissue rather than our potential for solutions.
Thats Als view as well.

Gapminder teaching ideas
Its time out/standalone.
I do expect to save time when we do the real thing.
Its a shorter version, but we will use the real mark scheme.
So we'll see how it goes, i'll report back.
Anyone else doing a Mock C.A?

Controlled Assessment
How long did you allow in the end? How did you integrate into the other units that you were teaching? Or did you take 'time out' and do as standalone? By doing the mock do you think it'll save you time later when you do the actual assessment? Did you top and tail each section go through tthe whole process? Would be interested to know

How do you put creativity in your lessons? What has worked for you?
Lets share examples here!
How do you use topical news to top up your lessons and share from the media to help your students to care?
Any good tips,sources or ideas??
model making-play ,doh is great fun, or a trip out or a speaker in,- all less boring and more variety of learning medium.

We use our school campus for work on micro climates and are creating a GCSE experience in our town looking at the impacts of a new supermarket.
We also use the nearest small resort for A/S Crowded Coasts field work.
Where do you go /what do you focus on??
I've just been using The Geography Detectives idea from Geog.1.
my students created Geography Detective badges for a homework-creativity leads to lovely results-worn with great pride i can tell you.

I have produced a pupil/parent friendly version of the descriptors which each student sticks in their book on day 1. Then when we first level the whole process is hopefully clear and transparent.
How do you begin the process and when is your first levelled work introduced?
Any more good ideas to make Geography live?
I do think local issues can provide a touch stone for Living Geography, a new Supermarket locating, or a park in need of renovation can again show links and strike a chord with affected students. Sometimes a local planner or MP can be invited in or e mailed to add to the debate. Or the students can role play/hot seat.

My Dept are planning a local field study to look at the dying high street and a new superstore arriving, scope for mapping/data from residents and contact with the council/superstore.
One question is how long our mock could be in class with the burden of syllabus to teach/learn.
Any other depts. wrestling with the same issues?? Can we share ideas?

Increasingly environmental issues have an economic dimension in cause, effect and solutions, We need to highlight this reality in our choices of case study, Being Green can be an economic plus/minus depending on your stance and interests. Such topical areas of study have an edge that appeals to students I have found. Do you agree?
2] Try to be an independent learner, if not ask.
3] The internet, the Atlas, books, tv news, papers are your learning buddies.
Any more ideas/resources to drive our subject forward in these first key lessons of the year.
What are your 3 most important rules for Geography success that you share with your students?

Look at it, maybe it can send a message and help to raise the subject profile in your school.
Or do you have a better resource? Let the group know please.

Whats your openning trick and treat?
I really want to hear from you and to share, as a group, good practice, good ideas, good dialogue and ways to thrive in this time of change and challenge in our schools.
Its about down to Earth problems and solutions, questions and answers.
Let your fingers do the talking, any responses to the first issues I've raised??
