Literacy: Using Story Starts
Part of the series Primary ICT Whiteboard
This programme focuses on three teachers, working across Key Stages 1 and 2, using specially designed whiteboard resources to teach literacy.
Offering a visual stimulus helps to develop with a class a common experience which the teacher can build upon using a variety of techniques like role play, group work and writing.
The children are engaged and excited as the teachers bring to life the demands of the curriculum.

Story Starts - Individual Clips Available19 March 2008 - 19:07Hello Everyone,
I am a Technology Coordinator [Years 1 to 8] in Ontario, Canada and I have managed to download and "split" 17 of the amazing "Available Light" Story Start productions into separate files.
All the clips are in the .mov file format and can be played in the free Quicktime player.
If you would like to e-mail me, I would be happy to assist you in obtaining these clips. The catch is, please let me know how you are using the story starts in your classroom!
Hope to hear from you.

Re : Story Starts - Individual Clips Available13 September 2009 - 03:44Hi Kent,
I am currently teaching a kindergarten class in Sydney, Australia. We have an interactive whiteboard and I am particularly interested in viewing the Story starters. I have not been able to access any of these due to the fact that I am logging in from Australia! If it is possible to attach some (or all!) of these files to an email I would really appreciate your effort.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Jen Dowling

whiteboard -using visual literacy28 February 2008 - 13:55Use of video gives greater pace to a lesson because children aren't slowed down by trying to access a narrative by having to read and decode before beginning writing.

story starts31 October 2007 - 07:11There is so much good stuff around that teachers don't know about yet-I'm going to share this one!
I also think we learn better form each other than from "experts". After all, we're the ones at the pointy end!
