Science: Electricity and Planets
Have you ever wondered how to bring a planet into the classroom, or switch your class on to electricity?
This programme shows how two teachers have used their interactive whiteboards differently to engage their Year 6 classes in abstract science topics.
Jane Chalmers has her pupils visualising the solar system through animations, while Ally Goff uses virtual circuits to discuss electricity with her whole class.

Science25 July 2007 - 20:27I thought that the teachers asking the pupils to guess how long it would take to fly to Pluto a bit of a waste of time as they although they knew the speed of the plane they did not seem to know the distance and did not have calculators to work it out until later. In the electricity part, the lesson was far too teacher led; instead of telling the children where to put components in a circuit she should have let them figure it out!
