Whole-Class Teaching
In this programme, two HLTAs spend a day in each other's school observing and gaining best practice in teaching whole classes.
Caroline Reps and Sarah Thomas are HLTAs who have known each other professionally for years. Both have recently completed the foundation degree for TAs and work in primary schools in Cornwall.
At the end of their observations, Caroline and Sarah have time to reflect on how the day has done and discuss the teaching strategies that work best for them.
In an open and frank discussion with a senior member of staff they talk about the challenges of teaching a class and reveal how children respond to them in their new role.

whole class teaching22 June 2008 - 08:36Some useful ideas for behaviour management when whole class teaching. Behaviour management could have been explored a bit further by showing the HLTAs dealing with issues.

whole class teaching12 June 2008 - 19:53Doesn't really address the issues of whole class teaching for a TA. Children in video very responsive and well-behaved. It would be helpful to talk about how you deal with behaviour issues wiht large groups of children.

Whole class teaching (HLTAs)15 April 2008 - 08:08It was nice to see how both teacher and the TA worked together and the support proved for the children. The children were well attentive to the lesson and responded well. It will be nice to show one in an area where children are not as attentive.I will encourage my TAs to watch this and see what they can pick out of it .
