The Need for Structure
Behaviour management guru John Bayley investigates the importance of good lesson structure and keeping students on target.
Bayley observes and films an English lesson conducted by Michelle Rock, who is working toward her teacher qualification. Drawing from his wealth of experience, Bayley feels that her teaching can be improved by more preparation, a firm lesson structure and by keeping her students on track during lessons. Bayley is a strong believer that lesson structure can work wonders in the classroom. Not only does this lead to improved comprehension levels in pupils, but ultimately reduces stress for the teacher.
Key points:
- Put classroom activities in sequence on the board, so pupils are sure about what they're supposed to be doing
- The start of the lesson is crucial: "The first exercise is to make children feel clever"
- Effective preparation can improve classroom behaviour, benefiting both teachers and pupils

not the best3 February 2009 - 15:50"sometimes some constructive boredom is not always a bad thing". This teacher is not what children need, though she could be good if she listened to advice. Shes only really got herself to blame when the class are not listening to her!
Thats just my opinion anyway lol
