This programme explores the pressures of workload for two newly qualified primary teachers, Tara and Rosie, after the Autumn half-term break in their induction year. They discuss the typical phases and problems that most new teachers experience, and they highlight areas of concern and awareness as the term progresses.

Tara and Rosie have opted to start their careers at inner-city schools in London. For both, this is a major change from their previous teaching practices and the move brings new challenges. This episode maps out Tara and Rosie's progress after their initial frustrations with behaviour management to the second half term, where stress and the pressures of workload start to affect their health.

Both agree that behaviour management is key to their ability to teach well and pass their induction year, whilst improving time management is also vital, but will their individual approaches to planning and teaching help them through the term?

Key points:

  • Stress and workload pressures can have a detrimental effect on your health
  • Improving time management is a vital skill in reducing stress
