Story-writing - Nine More Dramatised Clips
Part of the series Primary ICT Whiteboard
This programme consists of nine short drama sequences that can be used in the classroom to stimulate creative writing amongst primary pupils.
Each story start presents a different scenario and characters which are open to interpretation by pupils and teachers, including:
- a girl who wanders into a spooky basement
- a kite that causes trouble in high winds
- a piglet that explores a farm
Each individual story start ends on a cliff-hanger, encouraging pupils to continue the story from this point.

Re : Download and Edit26 March 2008 - 15:51Yes, these Story Starters are intended to be used separately. Log in and download the programme, then use movie editing software (free with most operating systems) to edit them.
You can find out more about downloading videos and editing videos in our help section.

Thank you for these video clips.13 June 2009 - 09:40These clips are really lovely and I think they will suit Key Stage 1 very well. I do feel that they are a little more prescriptive than the first set of story starters - it seems to me that the music is quite heavy in these, whereas the first collection use more sound effects that music pieces. My year 3 lower ability literacy group have produced some fabulous creative writing from the first story openers, which I will use again. I Would probably use the new set in the first part of the year (especially as we have Charlotte's Web as our topic!) but prefer the others to elicit more varied ideas.

9 Story starts28 April 2008 - 17:53I separated the first story starts ( I think there were 7 ) fairly successfully using Movie maker. However, I find that the ( tory starts don't `break' evenly - especially numbers 2 and 3. Anyone else have the same problem ? Otherwise, a briliant idea that I'm sure I will use. It would be great to have an index at the beginning or end though, with the titles and different curriculum relevances on them.

Individual Story Starters - Available19 March 2008 - 19:08Hello Everyone,
I am a Technology Coordinator [Years 1 to 8] in Ontario, Canada and I have managed to download and "split" 17 of the amazing "Available Light" Story Start productions into separate files.
All the clips are in the .mov file format and can be played in the free Quicktime player.
If you would like to e-mail me, I would be happy to assist you in obtaining these clips. The catch is, please let me know how you are using the story starts in your classroom!
Hope to hear from you.
