Under Siege
This programme contains sensitive content including images of conflict, teachers are advised to watch in full before using in classrooms.
In this final episode, we see how events occuring outside of the two West Bank schools can have a huge impact on the lives of both teachers and pupils.
One month into an already stressful term and the two schools, King Talal boys' school and Hajja Rushda girls' school, are having to deal with the day-to-day realities of living under an occupation while attempting to teach and learn.
A raid by the Israeli army on a nearby refugee camp brings chaos to the schools as well as tragedy for one of the students.
This series has been filmed exclusively from one perspective. You might be interested in two other programmes, Little Peace of Mine and Inspirations - Oasis of Peace, that explore how education is being used to build bridges between the Israelis and Palestinians.

the fight for eduaction & learning26 October 2008 - 16:47what's really appealing in this documentary is that those students are fighting to learn no matter how hard and difficult the conditions. This is something truly significant; which is not the case in other countries where everything is available but the rate of illiteracy is high.
thanks for showing the video.

Nablus25 April 2008 - 21:18I agree that without education we have nothing, anywhere, except the perpetuation of family and cultural prejudice. My aim, hope and prayer is that every child in the whole world be educated in openness, respect and understanding of the vast similarity and difference for every human in what it is to be a valuable human being. There are faults in every system, but we have to know how to live for the truth. May all of our teachers, throughout the whole world, in Palestine, Israel, Europe and everywhere, endeavor towards that dream and an end to political conflict.

Re : Thank you for getting in25 January 2008 - 10:03Thank you for getting in touch with Teachers TV. Whilst I am afraid we do not have any programmes which illustrate the impact of rocket attacks on Israeli schools, we are transmitting a number of programmes about education in Israel as part of our Middle East season. I hope you will find our Inspirations: Oasis of Peace and Judah and Mohammad of particular interest since, as both deal with the reconciliatory potential of education across both the Israeli and Palestinian communities. We are also transmitting Empty Rooms which does illustrate the impact of a suicide bomber in Tel Aviv in 2001.
We hope you find the range of programmes interesting.

Re : correct the injustice12 April 2008 - 20:24once you show a film about 2 schools in Nablus, tellimg and describing their story, it is your duty and obligation to introduce Israeli schools and students under daily missiles attacks. In your negligence to do so you betray the real role of mass comunnication - being objective and producing both sides of the conflict. It is in your hands to correct the injustice. Do it now!

Two Schools of Nablus9 April 2008 - 21:24anthonyr
Yes, the Palestinians suffer. But then so do the Israelis. The faceless Israeli soldiers in this film were mostly 18 year old recruits who would also like to get on with their lives and education intstead of having to be in the army for three years. I spent four years teaching in Israel/Palestine so I have a reasonable idea of the situation. One sided programmes like this do not help to bring both dides together and an end to this terrible conflict.

Two Schools, other hundreds with same and worse conditions9 April 2008 - 21:00This is only a small part of the daily suffering of the Palestinians under occupation. What's not shown on TV is even much worse but I do highly respect and evaluate the will of those people against Israeli occupation and to get their learning no matter what !!
Freedom to Palestinian students and teachers

Two Schools9 April 2008 - 09:10Whilst this film is greatly informative it is certainly very much one sided. It is a shame that you did not show the other side of the border especially on such a sensitive issue as this.
Please keep this site neutral and do not allow it to get embroiled in other peoples politics.
