A look at the ways in which new technology is being used to make the human use of water more safe.

Water is vital for life but poor sanitation and the resulting contamination is a major cause of death and disease across the world. Poor facilities for disposal of sewage and other waste water can quickly lead to the spread of dangerous diseases.

Catastrophic flooding caused by a lack of efficient drainage systems and flood defences also detrimentally affects human health. Scientists and engineers are now working on providing safe and clean drinking water for generations to come and ensuring there are new ways of disposing of waste water efficiently.
