Amazing Minds
Founded in 1989, the European Union's Young Scientists Contest aims to promote co-operation and interchange between young scientists across the continent.
In this programme, we meet the entrants from four countries - Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy and the UK - and find out how their inventions impressed national judges and earned them a place at the 2007 contest, held in Valencia, Spain.
Learn about each of the young scientists' inventions - from a clutch refinement that increases the speed of racing motorbikes, to a rocket that flies when propelled by water, and a chemical process that removes poisonous chromium VI from water.
You'll also find out about a clever device that creates bio-gas from the waste of the maize harvest. This device was invented by Austria's Martina Hafner and went on to win a prize at the contest in Valencia.
