KS2 PE - Gym Basics
This programme is for primary school teachers who find teaching gym at Key Stage 2 a challenge.
Alyson Smith from Stowford Primary has volunteered to be observed by Sharon Kee, a gym specialist, to help her with new ideas, advice on health and safety and tips on how to run a gym class.
This lesson is based on a QCA scheme of work using both floor and apparatus to create a sequence linking balances and different ways of travel. Sharon also gives some general advice applicable to teaching gym at any level.

studentteacher8 February 2010 - 20:01What a brilliant resource this is, such a help to the teaching of gymnastics, I will definately be using the post P.E activity idea, concerning the children writing down their sequences so that they do not forgot. Really excellent video. :)

PE3 February 2009 - 12:29This is excellent. It is exactly what I have been trying to achieve in a school recently through my SSCo role. It has confirmed to me that this is an important part of my role and I will encourage the schools to use my skills in this way. In one of the schools I have observed some lessons, delivered an INSET, developed resources and was trying to get them to video themselves and share good practice. By showing them this video will definitely help and hopefully show them it does not have to be a horrible experience. Gym is something that a lot of primary teachers are not comfortable with and it is good that this primary teacher has shown her thoughts and feelings in this video and shown that she is more than capable of delivering a good lesson. Thank you.
