Dylan Wiliam
Estelle Morris talks to Dylan Wiliam, deputy director of the Institute of Education, to discuss the state of education in our schools today.
Wiliam offers a radical point of view on many areas of education. In a varied career, he has taught in urban state schools, directed a large-scale testing program, served a number of roles in university administration and pursued a research programme focused assessment.
In a frank conversation with the former education secretary, Wiliam reveals his thoughts on the best ways to improve education, from policy to classroom tips. He holds strong views on the current assessment system and believes that it only suits some pupils, while alienating others who are capable of achieving good results.

Dylan Williams hmmmm20 August 2008 - 14:01Good stuff...everyone should see this....hmmmm...reducing the quantity of experienced teachers is not an argument for not reducing class sizes, its evidence that more needs to be done to attract people into teaching. A long term problem that needs a long term solution that isn't based around election cycles. Dylan talks about refelction...if teaching is a life long learning type job, then teachers require time to do this...good afl will not get off the ground without teachers having reflection time. The other way to get all teachers at this standard of 25% of teachers is to give them the correct prep time....high expectations of teachers is good but they need the right conditions to blossom....its not good enough to say that some teachers reach these high standards, so everyone can..this does not treat teachers as the individuals they are.....Dylan needs to read some SEAL stuff I think.

Dylan William9 May 2008 - 19:05What a stroke of luck- flicking as I had a spare 30 minutes and found this fabulous programme. Williams is as always, inspirational! And even better I can watch it again on line as I missed the first 5 or 10 minutes!
