The Future of English
This year the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) are asking teachers: just what should children should be learning in English lessons in the future? What skills do children need and what cultural experiences should they be exposed to?
This programme brings together a number of leading commentators and practitioners to discuss what that future might be. It aims to encourage and inform debate and calls on viewers to contribute via the QCA website.
The panel is chaired by Bethan Marshall of King's College London. Contributors include: Adrian Barlow, a senior examiner; Barbara Bleiman of the English and Media Centre in London; Sabrina Broadbent, teacher and novelist; Jamila Gavin, a children's author; Mark Reid, from the BFI, and the writer and broadcaster Michael Rosen.
The panel discusses creativity and inspiration, inclusion and diversity and how these themes interact with new technology, assessment, formal language teaching, set texts and spoken language.
