Going to School in a Monastery
As part of a focus on the diversity of education in India, this programme showcases the lives of children who live and are educated in a Buddhist monastery.
Lobzang Namgal lives in a monastery in Ladakh, it is both his home and his school. Here he and learns the Buddha's teachings alongside his other subjects, and still has time for play. Other duties include helping to prepare the evening meals, serving food and washing dishes.
Every day, millions of children in India fight the odds to go to school in city classrooms, mountain fields, or desert tents. The one thing they have in common is the desire to be educated.
Produced by former British teacher Lisa Heydlauff in response to a pupil asking what going to school in India is like, discover how important education is to children and families there.
