Railway Children

More to view/download/share: links

This emotional film follows the fortunes of some of the three million runaway children who live in danger on India's railways, and the man who has devoted his life to help them.

The children are constantly at risk from speeding trains and many die falling beneath the wheels. They are often exploited in the sex trade and may fall prey to abduction, never to be seen again.

Mani Norton has helped set up Street Kids Community Villages' run by street children for street children. A drop in centre is open to all kids at all times and even has the only hospital for railway children in India.

Mani, himself was a runaway railway child and former heroine addict. He understands fear and despair the children face. Filmed over ten years, the programme follows both the children's progress and Mani's continued efforts to help them.
