Working With TAs - Primary - Dilemmas
The teacher-TA relationship is one of the most important in the classroom, so when things go wrong, a diplomatic approach to resolution is essential.
This programme tackles some of the most common teacher-TA issues and offers strategies on how to these dilemmas can be overcome.
TA line manager and deputy headteacher Kate Atkins leads a problem-solving discussion with a group of class teachers from Rosendale Primary School.
They consider how they would deal with certain tricky situations in order to ensure that teamwork improves and the relationship gets back on track.
The group offer practical solutions for conflict resolution, explore how best to establish effective practice, and discuss realistic expectations.

As mentioned before would19 July 2008 - 10:19As mentioned before would have helped to have TAs involved. Also what about older more expereinced teachers most were five years or below years of experience. I find more experienced teachers use the TA less than newly qualified. TAs in my setting used for the lower abilities this wasn't really discussed.

Working with TAs-dilemmas19 April 2008 - 18:03Whilst some of the suggestions where very useful. Where were the TA's in the discussion? Why did they not get a voice and their opinions heard? Some of the opinions voiced were pretty patronising.

Conflict resolution15 November 2007 - 12:22As a final year undergraduate in Early Years I found some of the suggestions put forward in this video extremely useful. It seems that clear two-way communication and the setting of realistic goals are a recipe for ensuring that relationships between teachers and TAs stand a better chance of flourishing.
