The Challenge - Crunch Time
The end of another year at Lilian Baylis School in south London, where staff and students anxiously await the all important GCSE results, on which the National Challenge school?s immediate future depends.
Term ends with a number of emotional farewells including head of music Michelle Jaques who has made a huge contribution to the cultural life of the school
Another leaver is Andrew Marsh, Gary Philip's trusted deputy of 10 years. In an emotional speech to staff, Marsh talks about the unique potential of teaching to transform children's lives.
The school finally sees the results of its efforts to improve GCSE results, with 42 per cent of children achieving five A*-Cs, one of best results in Lambeth and a vindication of Philips' focus on English and Maths.
