E-assessment - Where Next?
This programme looks at the radical developments in assessment and exams which could change the face of teaching and learning forever.
Assessment regularly hits the headlines as the media and employers debate the value of exam results. Away from the spotlight there are developments in e-assessment which are potentially far more important in the long-term - and likely to provoke even stronger reactions.
This programme looks at using mobile phones to test pupils at the time of their choosing; abandoning the idea of ascribing numerical marks to students' work; and even letting students know exam questions in advance.

E-Assessment15 January 2010 - 16:58Technology can and is being used to measure progress in the classroom during delivery. This provides tremendous insights as children often say or think they know a concept and voice that thought but if children can answer in parallel with individualised feedback devices which permit full keyboard capability then even simple tools like concordancing can be used in real time to understand what every student knows or misunderstands. The value of high stakes exams then becomes more doubtful. In our system all students provide an input every few minutes to a question. The differentiated responses have the potential to be the object of valuable discussion. This takes away the dependence on multiple choice questions.
