Hard To Teach - Secondary Music
Karin Greenhead from the Royal Northern College of Music demonstrates how Dalcroze eurythmics can be used to help music students incorporate expression into their playing.
Greenhead, an internationally recognized expert in the Dalcroze approach, teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music.
She explains how Dalcroze methods - which associate gesture and movement with phrasing and intonation - can help students learn the principles of rhythm, notation and improvisation.
In addition to Karin's classes at the RNCM, we see Bethan James working with the Manchester Youth Strings Project.
We also observe Joanne Tierney, head of music at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School, leading a music lesson with her class, demonstrating that Dalcroze methods can be adapted to work with larger groups.

Music Teaching25 March 2007 - 20:15I would like to see a video of the sol-fa aspect of Dalcroze which is mentioned in this video. I have a Masters in Kodaly which uses sol-fa extensively and does incorporate rhythm work similar to Dalcroze but I'd like to know more about the differences between the methods.
