KS1/2 English - Reading Recovery in Schools
This programme follows the contrasting experiences of two five-year-olds undergoing Reading Recovery at Whitmore Primary School in London.
Reading Recovery is an early literacy intervention programme designed for pupils experiencing literacy difficulties at the end of their first primary school year.
After 15 weeks of daily one-on-one support from experienced specialists, one child is sailing ahead, whilst the other is still struggling with some of the basics of linking sounds, letters and meaning.
Some of the component techniques of Reading Recovery are seen in action, but we also learn about the very individual attention needed to help some children learn to read and write.

Reading Recovery5 March 2009 - 12:39Lovely video of child and teacher interacting, but no systematic teaching of phonics and how to read accurately and independently without context clues. From my experience teaching children with and without reading difficulties, this method works with children who are able to learn to read easily, but is disastrous for children who struggle.

Reading Recovery1 January 2008 - 23:19Really enjoyed watching the children's progression and honest comments from the Teachers It Would have also been good to see how Reading Recovery can also support the management of Reading through out the infants.Excellent example to watch of a quality intervention programme and personalised learning in action.
