Every Child Matters
In response to the Victoria Climbie case and inquiry, the government has launched its Green Paper, entitled Every Child Matters (ECM). The new legislation affects all child-care agencies, but schools most of all.
ECM is all-encompassing and is driving schools to work in multi-agency teams and be fully-inclusive.
Every child matters is an honest look at the legislation, what it means for schools in practice and some of the difficulties and challenges faced in terms of communication, workload, standards and league tables.
We look at two inner-city secondary schools' interpretations of the legislation and some of the difficulties they face with its implementation.
Mayfield School and College is just beginning to implement its version of ECM and staff are anxious about some of the implications. George Green's School, on the other hand, is anything but typical and has pre-empted the ECM agenda 11 years ago. They have developed a multi-agency approach with an on-site full-time social-worker, police officer and school counsellor.

This probably isn't the place for this feedback but I can't see where else to post it.
The subjct of this video is important but the blurring and waving about of the camerawork just makes me feel ill nad makes it impossible to concentrate properly on the content.

Being an ex student of George Green's I think they have come along way, I beleive what they are doing is fab, Having these professionals all under one roof will be more time effective and will get issues dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Multi agency professionals working under the same roof is an excellent way of dealing with issues that concern an individual child quickly and effectively. It builds good team relationships that can work together.

as a teacher I agree entirely with the sentimentsraised in the video but wonder who will foot the bill to release and therefore cover teachers to attend the extra meetings or just simply to communicate with other proffessionals. I would love to converse with other proffessionals but when would I be able to do that?

What's the point of having lots of GCSE's if we can't get on with each other? This report looks into the importance of social inclusion and the coordination of the multi agency work needed for its success. An interesting programme highlighting the BIG challenges facing schools.
