KS1/2 Art - Great Paintings
Bringing great paintings to life is the aim of Jo Hooks, who wants to engage her young audiences by using inspirational art right across the curriculum.
At St John the Baptist Primary School, Bromley, Jo inspires a Year 2 group with animals and a Year 5 group with story telling in art.
Using her slide shows of great artworks to win the attention of her class, Jo shows them Poussin's Triumph of David which not only shows Goliath's severed head, but provides opportunities to inspire children's imaginations to stories beyond the painting itself.
Rousseau's Tiger in a Tropical Storm opens Jo's animal theme for Year 2 and the class makes jungle sound effects and re-enacts scenes from other paintings.
