Summary
This series follows a group of maths teachers who are each working to improve their Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies.
The teachers, from Bromley in south east London, hope that by enhancing their teaching skills, they can make maths a more positive experience for themselves and their pupils.
In this programme, a Year 9 class from Bromley's Ravensbourne School work on graphs, equations and coordinates as their teacher, Caroline Price, tests out new AfL techniques for the first time.
Will Caroline be able to change her traditional approach? And how will the pupils react to this new style of teaching and learning?

What an excellent idea! The scope for learning as well as assessing is very wide. The students being given the control over what they did with the pieces helped them to become truly involved and the teacher would have gained good insight into student knowledge as well as the students gaining insight into what they knew and did not know.

Even though I am not a maths teacher I enjoyed viewing this programme. This type of exploratory problem solving learning I feel facilitates personalised learning well. I think this approach can be adapted for any subject. Learners made some useful comments to camera and I felt it would have been beneficial if these comments were shared in a plenary at the end of the lesson - such reflective practice would have made an excellent wrap up to the lesson. The tutor was very human and I could empathise with her feelings about losing control as the control was passed to the learners.
