Summary
Bridgid Nzekwu takes procurement expert Claire Dicks to Ranelagh Primary School in east London to see if they can help save money.
The school is trying hard to pay off a deficit and everyone is doing their best to save money. Staff cover for each other rather than using supply teachers and even the children are encouraged to save money in an assembly taken by the business manager, Zena Smart.
Zena shows the visitors around the school to see if Claire can find the kind of savings to enable them to save enough per year to pay off a sizeable chunk of the deficit, and realise a dream project.

It would be nice if every school would take a look at everything around them to see where they can save money rather then worrying about having bigger budgets passed by votes, it would show they care about their community the taxes and cost of their districts.
A head teacher has apparently never asked herself why she keeps her cleaning and payroll contracts with her local authority. A nice woman explains it all to her. It's all presented as being very black and white. We're expected to believe that the cause of the school's woes is entirely institutional inertia. My question to the head would be why did you wait for a TV programme to come to tell you this, and then I'd have some serious questions for the govenors. What's the point of having govenors if they aren't asking these basic questions?
