Summary
This short film for KS2 lessons describes the process involved in the production of pound coins.
Coins are made at The Royal Mint in Wales, which houses the factories that create coins as well as a museum of the oldest coins in the UK.
The process of how coins are made is demonstrated from the melting of copper, zinc, and nickel brass to create an alloy, to the rolling machines which flatten the coins to the correct size.
Later, there is an example of how the impressions on coins are made using state-of-the-art technology.
