Teenage Fathers
When debating the issue of teenage pregnancy in Britain, the traditional focus has been on young women. But while much has been done in recent years to ensure teenage mothers get the right support, little has been done to tackle the issue of teenage fathers.
Society often regards teenage fathers as irresponsible individuals who get their girlfriends pregnant and then abandoned them. Yet all the evidence shows that when young fathers are offered reliable and sympathetic support, the impact upon them, their children and their families can be profound.
Compared to their female counterparts, school aged fathers are almost invisible as a group - the fact remains that we don't know how many of them there are in the country. In this programme, three teenage fathers from Sunderland emerge from the shadows to reveal who they really are.

Great programme, recommended. Thank God for Charlie. Even if you don't pray, pray for more spirit-filled men like him who have it upon their hearts to mentor and guide young men who, in many cases, have had no fathers themselves. One comment he made was (paraphrase) 'just one person to care, who doesn't give up, makes all the difference in the world'. Surely we, as teachers and youth workers, have at least one child in mind who would benefit by our not giving up on them.

I absolutely agree. We need more young people like these young men. Give thm a good role model and support and many of them can achiev this kind of commitment. I have many students like this, usually female but I can make sure the women know there are men out there who will support their children. Maybe we can encourage many more young people to stay together and make it work to support the children they are creating and nurturing.

A positive reflection of the fathers side of this problem. Well done to the guys who are supporting their girlfriends and their children and beating the sterotypes we, as a society, hold about them.
Well done guys- you may have made mistakes but full marks for your brave and upstanding commitment.

How refreshing to hear about 'good and present' fathers rather than about 'poor and absent' ones.
Interesting, touching, encouraging.
